Case-by-case

Section 603.007 of the Government Code states that a Notary Public must itemize or be prepared to itemize the fees that the notary charges for performing notarial services.

A fee under this chapter is not payable to a person until a clerk or officer produces, or is ready to produce, a bill in writing containing the details of the fee to the person who owes the fee. The bill must be signed by the clerk or officer to whom the fee is due or who charges the fee or by the successor in office or legal representative of the clerk or officer.

Tex. Gov't. Code Ann. § 406.014 requires that a Notary Public maintain a record book. This record book must be maintained whether or not any fees are charged for your notary public services.

Travel Fees

Travel fees are not set by law in Texas, which means they are optional and must be agreed upon in advance between the notary and the signer. These fees are separate from notarial fees and will be clearly itemized on your invoice.

Here’s how it works:

  • Base Travel Fee (within 7 miles of 78748): $35.00

  • Additional Mileage (over 7 miles): $1.10 per mile

  • Fee Adjustments: Rates may vary based on time of day and distance. All fees will be quoted before departure and
    require your approval.

How to Prepare for a Smooth Notarization Appointment

To help your notary appointment go as quickly and smoothly as possible, please review the following checklist:

✅ Fill in All Blanks
Please complete all blank spaces in your document before the notary arrives.
Note: Documents that do not include a notary certificate (acknowledgment or jurat) cannot be notarized.

✍️ Wait to Sign
Do not sign your document ahead of time. Your signature must be witnessed by the notary during your appointment.

❓ Clarify Questions Ahead of Time
If you’re unsure how to complete your document, please reach out to the person or organization that provided it. Notaries cannot offer legal advice or assist in document completion.

🪪 Bring Valid ID
The person signing the document must be present and provide a valid, unexpired photo ID. Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • Government-issued ID

  • Driver’s License

  • Passport

  • Military ID

👥 Plan for Witnesses (if needed)
If the signer cannot present valid ID (e.g., an elderly person in a care facility), a credible witness may be used to confirm their identity. Please let me know before your appointment if a witness will be needed so we can plan accordingly.
