From Brain Dump to Bullet Points: How AI Organizes Notes You’ll Actually Use

Do you use your Notes app on your phone or computer? Maybe you text yourself notes when you just can't forget something! You’ve got endless notes that never make it anywhere… but they’re there just in case. Me too. 🤣
The truth is, we all have notes scattered everywhere. Meetings, trainings, client conversations, late-night brain dumps, iPad scribbles—doesn’t matter where they live. They pile up, get messy, and most of the time we never look back at them. And when we do, half the time we’re thinking, “What did I even mean by ‘fix the green thing’?”
Why We Take Notes (and Still Forget Them)
Meetings & classes: fast scribbles you plan to “clean up later.”
Brain dumps: 2 a.m. ideas with zero context by morning.
Client convos: details matter, but the notes live in five places.
Project work: shared docs are raw and hard to scan.
The longer you wait to revisit them, the fuzzier they get. Tone, context, and that original spark fade.
It Doesn’t Matter Where You Take Notes:
Apple Notes, Google Keep, OneNote/Evernote, Notion, Goodnotes/Notability, Samsung Notes, or a paper-but-digital tablet like reMarkable—the challenge is the same: scattered, messy, easy to forget. What's super cool and nerdy is that you can export most of those notes to PDF's that you can either copy/paste out of or simply drop the PDF's into the GPT!
👉 I’ve listed my favorite apps & note-taking devices at the bottom of this post.
The AI Fix (Fast & Simple)
Here’s what I do now:
Paste your raw notes into AI.
Ask for a cleanup into clear bullet points.
Put action items at the very top with owners and due dates.
Optionally: turn it into an email, Slack update, or a to-do list.
Result?
What to do (up front)
What to remember (summary)
What to share (polished update)
Copy-This Prompt:
“Clean up the notes below into concise bullet points. Then list Action Items at the very top with owner and due date. Keep the original context and clarify any vague lines. Finally, provide a short email-ready recap.
Notes: [paste your messy notes here]” Optional is to add any pdfs you have!
Bonus Hack: Workbooks & Handouts!!!
Did you leave a training with a half-empty workbook because you were listening, not writing? Upload the digital workbook/handout and ask AI to:
Fill blanks using your raw notes.
Expand the material with key takeaways.
Turn it into a living doc you can keep adding to later.
Notes aren’t the problem, action and translation is. With one copy/paste into AI, you can organize notes, keep the tone/context while it’s fresh, and leave with a clear action plan you’ll actually use. Your future self will thank you.
